Welcome to booksmith.ca.

Electronic publishing is an exciting technology, and if you can work through the technical complexities and the increasingly pervasive rules, restrictions and impenetrable brick walls erected around it, it will put your books in front of innumerable new readers.

The Amazon Kindle book reader tablet claims over half a million titles and several million users as of this writing. It features on-line, real time shopping for books, with electronic payment directly to the publishers or authors responsible for them.

You could be one of those publishers or authors.

Nothing this cool arrives without a few catches, however. Kindle embodies several of them, and as catches go, they're pretty good ones. The most notable catch is that formatting your books for distribution by Kindle is easy to do, but extremely difficult to do well.

The biggest obstacle for small publishers or individual authors approaching Kindle is getting their books into a form that will make them look professional, readable and worth paying for when they appear on the Kindle tablets of their readers. Along with its Whispernet communication, optional text to speech, sixteen-gray level screen and long battery life, Kindle has a Refund option.

If your e-books look like salad, your readers will demand their money back.

Lesser catches in making your books available to Kindle readers include managing their graphics so they look good in sixteen gray levels; drilling down through Amazon's slightly impenetrable account management process; dealing with issues like ISBN numbers and electronic funds transfers and convincing Amazon's legal people that you really have the rights to upload your own books.

We've been doing books since long before they were electronic, and we've been doing Kindle books almost since their inception. We can make even complex books look perfect down to the last pixel, and we know which buttons to click on and which fields to complete to get the books we deal with on line and selling as quickly as possible.

We can provide flawless Kindle formatting if you have your own Kindle account, or we can manage your books from their inception, upload them to Kindle, collect your royalties and forward them to you.

Our account management services will get you access to Kindle even if you reside in a country with a banking system Amazon doesn't want to deal with directly, and they'll get you past most tax withholding issues.

Whether you're an author with a single book to publish, or a publisher with a catalog of titles thick enough to stun a mule, we'll get your works published at Kindle.

We'll get you your sales royalties as soon as you're paid.

We'll assist you with the pre-press for your books if you need help.

We'll do it all in a cost-effective manner, so your royalties wind up where they belong — in your bank account.

We can even assist you with getting your books printed, if you decide that you'd like to augment your electronic publishing with traditional paper books.

There's a much more detailed discussion of what we do at the pre-press page of our web site.

We look forward to helping you get read... electronically.
